The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
